BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION
The biodiversity conservation program of ASLM aims to promote the identification and conservation of biodiversity refuges in managed landscapes, including agricultural systems, urban areas, and home gardens. The program also provides technical guidance for national and international agencies to identify and declare protected areas.
ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION
ASLMs ecosystem restoration program focuses on the scientific restoration of degraded forest and wetland ecosystems in order to sustain vital ecosystem services, in collaboration with partner organizations and local communities. The program also implements research programs to monitor the progress of restored areas.
SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
The Sustainable Agriculture Program of ASLM promotes eco-agricultural practices in order to minimize adverse impacts related to misuse of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, avoid the clearance of natural ecosystems, ensure the well-being of farmers, and conserve biodiversity in agro-ecosystems.
EDUCATION AND AWARENESS
ASLM promotes environmental education, training and awareness programs among various stakeholders, including school students, local community based organizations, private sector entities, and government officers. The education and awareness program produces print and electronic resources related to the environmental sector in English, Sinhala and Tamil languages.
ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMICS AND POLICY ADVOCACY
The Environmental Economics and Policy Advocacy program provides technical assistance to pertinent government agencies in the preparation, review and revision of environmental policies, guidelines and legislation, and valuation of ecosystem services. This program also engages in environmental due diligence activities with government and private stakeholders, in order to integrate environmental safeguards in development projects.
